Family Weekend

Dear Orange Friends:

We have just finished family weekend at Syracuse University. There were many hundreds of parents, grandparents, siblings, and other family members of our students on campus for a wonderful array of events organized by Division of Student Affairs staff with the amazingly dedicated oversight of Colleen Bench.

I got to many of the events. I particularly enjoyed the A Cappella concert in Setnor Auditorium on Saturday. Six a cappella groups performed for a packed house of family members and students. In the past decade there has been a remarkable resurgence of group singing without accompanying instruments. On our campus, there are so many great groups. I listened to The Mandarins, Oy Cappella, Orange Appeal, Main Squeeze, Otto Tunes, and Groovestand on Saturday.

They were spectacular. The voices were great, and the accompanying choreography vastly entertaining. But best of all was the sheer joy these students showed in being with each other, in cheering for each other, and in making everyone in Setnor happy. It was an hour of happiness embedded in a great weekend.
