Dear Orange Friends,
Last night, the Orange men’s soccer team made program history! After a three-hour, heart-stopping game that went into overtime and was ultimately decided on penalty kicks, the Orange are national champions. As this special team likes to say: they “Dared to Dream.” Today the reality is the Orange bring home the championship trifecta—winning the regular season division title, the ACC championship and the national title. Together, the coaching staff and student-athletes have been awarded dozens of accolades and honors, including ACC Coach of the Year, two All-Americans, five All-Region team members and a semifinalist for the highest individual honor in collegiate soccer—the MAC Hermann Trophy.
This team’s success isn’t limited to the field. The men’s soccer team is one of 10 Orange programs to earn a perfect graduation success rate. I am equally proud of their dedication in the classroom, made more challenging by their demanding schedule of practices, games and travel.
To the men’s soccer team: Great work in all you’ve accomplished in this season that will live in the record books! You make this community proud. Today, not only are you Forever Orange, but you are also forever champions.
Go Orange!
