Dear Orange Friends:
Earlier this summer, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education reaffirmed the accreditation of Syracuse University, commended the University on the quality of the self-study process that produced the reaccreditation, and notified us that our next evaluation visit will occur in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Middle States accreditation is fundamental to our operation as a university, for in many ways it externally monitors and affirms our educational efforts. It also is a prerequisite to an array of regulatory requirements and benefits, including federal financial aid for many of our students and programs. Accreditation is a rigorous process that required extraordinary effort by every part of the University, under the leadership of Provost Michele Wheatly and our tri-chairs for this effort—Rochelle Ford, Jeff Stanton, and Libby Barlow.
I thank everyone in the University who contributed to the Middle States process. We learned a lot from the exercise, including about where we are doing well and where we must continue to improve. I am confident that the accreditors saw a university that is doing well and aspires to live up to its values in the future. I am grateful to everyone at the University and in the Orange community working to help keep that true.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Kent Syverud
