Dear Orange Friends:
Four groups of Syracuse student-athletes have had amazing runs toward the end of the season.
Our field hockey team advanced to the National Championship game for the first time in program history. The Orange lost an incredibly close and exciting game 1-0 to the University of Connecticut. It was Syracuse’s eighth-consecutive NCAA Tournament showing and its third Final Four.
Our men’s cross-country team recorded the program’s best NCAA Championship finish since 1957, coming in fifth with four runners in the top 50.
Our men’s soccer team will play Georgetown this coming Sunday, Nov. 30, in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year Ian McIntyre led the Orange to the top spot in the national rankings, which was the first time in program history Syracuse ranked #1 nationally.
Our women’s cross-country team achieved its highest rank in program history, earning the #12 rank nationally earlier this fall. The team also finished in the Top 25 at the NCAA Championship.
Please join me in thanking these students and their coaches for their extraordinary effort and success.
